Live chat tools for WHMCS compared: what each integration connects

Most live chat tools for WHMCS add a chat window and pass the client's name and email. A few show agents invoices and services. Here is what each integration connects, what it needs from WHMCS and what its AI costs.

Most live chat tools for WHMCS put a chat window in your client area and pass the signed-in client's name and email to it. A few send more, such as invoices or services for your agents to see. None of their WHMCS listings says the tool's AI reads or changes a client's WHMCS account.

That matters because many questions in a WHMCS client area are about the client's own account: an unpaid invoice, a renewal date, a domain's nameservers. Below is what each integration connects, taken from its WHMCS Marketplace listing, its help pages, its pricing page and, for tawk.to, Crisp and Chatwoot, the module's public code on GitHub. Everything was checked on 19 October 2026. We installed nothing, and where a page is silent we say so.

Does WHMCS have its own live chat?

Yes, as a paid addon. WHMCS sells Live Chat & Visitor Tracking, which its Marketplace listing says was "developed in partnership with Chatstack". The listing, checked on 19 October 2026, shows $6.95 a month for one domain with branding, $9.95 without branding and $12.95 for several domains. The current version is 5.8.10500, released on 16 February 2023.

The WHMCS documentation says it gives agents "in-chat access to customer products and billing" and that "chat transcripts become support tickets after the chat concludes". It also says WHMCS does not include the addon by default and that "WHMCS Cloud does not currently support this module". Neither page mentions AI or automatic replies. It connects a client to a person on your team.

Which integrations go deeper than a chat window?

Three go further. Lennmedia's WHMCS PRO plugin for Crisp creates and updates WHMCS clients in Crisp "in real-time", and its Crisp page, updated on 5 June 2026, says agents can open a client's products, invoices and tickets with one click.

Chatwoot has no WHMCS module of its own, but community modules fill the gap. The Multilat module's README lists credit balance, overdue invoices, active and suspended products, and products and domains expiring within 30 days, all sent as custom attributes.

ModulesGarden goes furthest on tickets. Zendesk For WHMCS replaces the WHMCS support system with Zendesk, and Freshdesk For WHMCS syncs tickets and replies between the two systems.

All of this is data for your agents. None of these pages says the chat tool's AI reads those fields when it answers a client.

What about chat tools with no WHMCS module?

We found no WHMCS integration built by Intercom, Help Scout or Gorgias. The Intercom modules on GitHub were last updated in January 2017. Without a module, the route is an automation platform. Zapier's WHMCS app lists one trigger, New Todo Item, and three actions, so nothing else in WHMCS can start a Zap through it. Integrately lists six WHMCS triggers, including "Ticket is created", with ready workflows such as "When a WHMCS ticket is created, summarize the issue in ChatGPT and notify your support channel in Slack".

Which WHMCS credentials does each tool need?

The tawk.to and Crisp modules run inside WHMCS as addons. Their public code reads the signed-in client from WHMCS and hands a few fields to the chat window. Neither asks for a WHMCS API credential.

LiveChat's transcript feature is different. Its help article, updated on 20 September 2022, asks for your WHMCS address, an admin login and admin password, a support department ID, and an API key you add to configuration.php as $api_access_key. WHMCS's developer documentation says such a key lets API calls skip the IP restriction that otherwise guards the API. The Zendesk sidebar app uses a secure code, plus optional HTTP basic authentication, on a WHMCS endpoint.

How to choose live chat for WHMCS

  • Who answers. If people answer every chat, any tool above works, and the price per seat matters most.
  • What your agents need to see. Name and email is enough for pre-sales. For billing questions, pick an integration that shows invoices and services next to the chat.
  • Where tickets live. Decide whether tickets stay in WHMCS or move to the chat tool's helpdesk before you pick the tool.
  • What it needs from WHMCS. An addon that reads the session is a smaller risk than an admin password stored in someone else's system.
  • The module's date. Several modules above were last updated between 2018 and 2020. Check that the version you download runs on your WHMCS and PHP.

If you are also choosing a chat tool for the rest of your website, we compare our own chat with two of these on the tawk.to alternative and Crisp alternative pages.

When you need an AI that reads the account

A chat AI that answers from your help articles handles "how do I point my domain". It cannot say whether this client's invoice is paid, because that answer lives in WHMCS. For that you need an AI that reads the signed-in client's own records, which is a different kind of product. Our comparison of AI chatbots for WHMCS covers the ones that do.

MagizAI is one of them. Its WHMCS AI chatbot module answers from the client's own services, domains and invoices, and makes a change such as new nameservers or an order only after the client taps Confirm. It does not reboot servers, edit DNS records or change domain contacts.
