The EU AI Act and your chatbot

Last updated: 9 October 2026

From 2 August 2026, Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act requires that people are told they are talking to an AI system, unless that is obvious from the context. This page sets out what a MagizAI chat shows visitors by default, and what you can change. It is not legal advice.

What visitors see by default

  • The chat window's header shows "AI assistant" under your chatbot's name, in the visitor's language. The card design shows an "AI" badge next to the name instead.
  • A visitor who asks for a person is handed to your team in the inbox, within the working hours you set. Human handoff is on every plan.

What you can change

  • In your chatbot's Design settings you can reword the label or the badge, or hide them.
  • If you hide them, tell visitors another way that they are talking to an AI, for example in the welcome message, unless that is already obvious on your site.

Outside the EU

Some US states have their own chatbot disclosure rules, for example California for bots used to sell, Maine for any commercial chat that could pass as a person, and Utah when someone asks whether they are talking to an AI, and up front in regulated services.
